Danielle Fernandes Dominique Schuelein-Steel, most popularly known as Danielle Steel, was born on 14th August 1947 in New York City, the United States.
She is an American Novelist and Writer who has authored 190 books, which includes over 140 novels as of 2021. She is best recognized for her novels on romance. Her books have been translated into forty-three languages.
For her professional life and career, she has been based in California. She writes many books every year, mostly juggling five projects simultaneously. Her every novel is the best seller. Her novels usually include affluent families and their lives faced and surrounded by the dark elements. She also published and authored children’s fiction and poetry.
Education and Early Childhood
Danielle Steel was born in New York City. Her mother was Portuguese and her father was German. Her father’s name was John Schuelein-Steel, and her mother’s name was Norma da Camara Stone dos Reis; she was a child to a Portuguese diplomat.
Much of Steel’s childhood was spent in France. She went to dinner parties with her parents from a very early age. It provided her with the chance to observe and look at the lives of the famous and wealthy. When her parents divorced at eight, Steel was raised by her father primarily, and rarely met her mother.
As far as her education is concerned, she has attended the Parsons School of Design and New York University. She studied fashion design and literature design.
Career as Author and Journey of Danielle Steel
When Steel was at New York University, she wrote her first manuscript at the age of nineteen. She also joined and worked for the public relations agency. John Mack Karter, the editor of the Ladies’ Home Journal, encouraged and motivated her to go for writing as he was pretty impressed by her freelance writing and articles. Then, she worked at Grey Advertising on the post of copywriter after moving to San Francisco.
In 1973, her first novel, Going Home, was published. Her other two books launched her career – Now and Forever and Passion’s Promise. Her fourth book was The Promise. She was also listed in 1989 in the Guinness Book of World Records. She has also authored some non-fiction work and published a poetry book.
After years of constant writing, Steel opened in 2003 an art gallery that closed in 2007. She also agreed with Elizabeth Arden in 2006 to launch a new perfume known as Danielle-by-Danielle Steel.

- In May 2009, Steel received the “Distinguished Service in Mental Health Award.” This award was given for the first time to the non-physician. It was awarded by “New York Presbyterian Hospital, the Department of Psychiatry Columbia University Medical School, and Cornell Medical College.”
- In May 2003, she got the “Outstanding Achievement Award” from “Larkin Street Youth Services, San Francisco.”
- In November 1999, Steel was awarded the “Service to Youth Award.”

She has her residence in San Francisco. However, Steel spends most of the time in her home in Paris. Steel generally spends two to three years writing a book, and her novels are often described as formulaic. Usually, her novels explore the world and life of the wealthy and famous.
